/settings view#
Show all current server settings.
- Usage:
/settings view
Displays your prefix, response visibility, chest drop channel, rare catch announcement channel, leaderboard results channel, notification roles, and server timezone.
Prefix#
/settings prefix#
Set a custom command prefix for your server.
- Usage:
/settings prefix <new_prefix> - Example:
/settings prefix !c
Changes the prefix used for text-style commands (e.g. !c fish). The default is !f. Must be 1–10 characters. Slash commands work whatever the prefix is.
/settings prefix-reset#
Revert to the default prefix (!f).
- Usage:
/settings prefix-reset
Response Visibility#
/settings ephemeral#
Toggle whether a command's response is visible only to the user who ran it (ephemeral) or to the whole channel.
- Usage:
/settings ephemeral <command> <true|false> - Commands:
leaderboard,profile,inventory - Example:
/settings ephemeral leaderboard true
Useful for keeping busy channels tidy. /locations is always ephemeral.
This only applies to slash commands. Prefix commands like !fish are always visible to the whole channel because of how Discord works.
Community Chest Drops#
Chests drop in a channel you choose, and anyone can claim them.
/settings channel#
Set which channel receives community chest drops.
- Usage:
/settings channel <#channel> - Example:
/settings channel #fishing
/settings channel-reset#
Disable community chest drops.
- Usage:
/settings channel-reset
Rare Catch Announcements#
Announce every Mythical or Unique catch, with the fish, who caught it, and an optional role ping.
/settings rarecatch#
Set (or clear) where rare catches are announced.
- Usage:
/settings rarecatch [channel] [role] - Examples:
/settings rarecatch #big-catches,/settings rarecatch #big-catches @RareCatchFans
channel can be a text channel or a thread. An archived thread is unarchived when an announcement posts. Leave channel empty to turn announcements off.
Public Rare-Catch Feed#
Every server's Mythical and Unique catches appear on the live feed on the CozyCasting website: the fish, its size, weight and value, and the location. This can't be turned off, and by default it doesn't name anyone: no server name, no Discord ID, and no angler name.
You control whether your members are named on the feed or shown as "Anonymous Angler". Names are off by default.
This is separate from /settings rarecatch, which posts in a Discord channel.
/settings globalfeed#
Show this server's anglers by name on the public feed.
- Usage:
/settings globalfeed <enabled> - Examples:
/settings globalfeed enabled:True,/settings globalfeed enabled:False
Turning it on adds the angler's name to this server's entries on the feed. It's a public web page that anyone can read. You're deciding for your members, so consider asking them first.
It also applies to entries already on the feed. Turn it on and past catches show names; turn it off and the names are removed. The catches stay on the feed either way.
Any member can remove themselves from the feed with /globalfeed, and that overrides this setting.
Leaderboard Results#
Post completed Weekly Fishing Champion, Monthly Fishing Champion and Top Server of the Month results in a channel you choose. Off by default.
/settings leaderboard-results#
Set (or clear) where completed leaderboard results are announced.
- Usage:
/settings leaderboard-results [channel] - Example:
/settings leaderboard-results #announcements
Results post once per period, right after the winners are decided at midnight UTC. Leave channel empty to turn it off. Rewards are always given, even if the message fails to post.
The leaderboards are global, so every server that opts in sees the same champion.
Tournaments#
Run a live fishing tournament in your server with /tournament start.
/tournament start#
Start a live fishing tournament in this server.
- Usage:
/tournament start <mode> <duration> - Required Permission: Manage Server
- Mode: Heaviest Single Catch or Most Total Fish Caught
- Duration: 5–120 minutes
Starts a timed competition. Every /fish catch in the server during that time counts, with no sign-up. When the timer runs out, the bot announces the top 3 anglers in the channel where it started.
Key rules:
- One tournament per server at a time
- Only /fish catches count, not nets or breeding
- There are no prizes
- Ties go to whoever reached the score first
- A bot restart cancels any tournament still running
Checking tournament progress
Players can use /tournament leaderboard at any time to see the live standings and how much time is left.
Notification Roles#
Roles that get pinged when events start. It's best to let members assign these roles to themselves.
/settings notify-events#
Set the role to ping when server events start, including Fishing Frenzy and Monster Fish.
- Usage:
/settings notify-events <@role> - Example:
/settings notify-events @Events
/settings notify-events-reset#
Disable event pings.
- Usage:
/settings notify-events-reset
/settings notify-chest#
Set the role to ping when a community chest drop appears.
- Usage:
/settings notify-chest <@role> - Example:
/settings notify-chest @ChestAlerts
/settings notify-chest-reset#
Disable community chest drop pings.
- Usage:
/settings notify-chest-reset
Server Timezone#
/settings timezone#
Set the server timezone. This decides when the 8 PM Fishing Frenzy starts in your local time.
- Usage:
/settings timezone <IANA timezone> - Examples:
/settings timezone America/New_York,/settings timezone Europe/London,/settings timezone UTC
Uses standard IANA timezone names. Defaults to UTC if not set.
Permissions and Troubleshooting#
CozyCasting never requires Administrator.
Required everywhere: View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files, and Use Application Commands (the applications.commands scope, granted when the bot is installed). Attach Files is needed for fish images and profile cards. Without it, catches show as text.
Feature-specific: Create Public Threads, Send Messages in Threads and Read Message History, needed only for accepted /trade sessions, which run in their own thread.
One channel doesn't work but the rest do#
Discord permissions are per channel. A channel override can take away a permission the CozyCasting role has server-wide. That's almost always why a single channel stops working.
- Server Settings → Roles → CozyCasting: confirm the required permissions above are granted at the role level.
- Right-click the channel → Edit Channel → Permissions: check for a red ✗ on the CozyCasting role or on
@everyonefor that channel. - Category overrides cascade to new channels inside them; check the category too.
- You don't need to remove and re-add the bot. Fix the role or channel override instead.
Permission checks
/settings channel, /settings rarecatch and /settings leaderboard-results check that the bot can post in the channel or thread you pick (send messages, embed links and attach files) before saving. If a permission is missing, it tells you which one.
Members aren't getting reminders#
Reminders are DMs, and each player has to allow DMs. Commands don't work in DMs. DMs are only used for reminders, trade requests, breeding alerts and guild invitations (which post in the channel if DMs are closed). Players enable them with right-click the server → Privacy Settings → Direct Messages, then tune which types they get with /notifications.
Recommended Setup#
A typical setup:
- Check permissions first: confirm CozyCasting has View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links and Attach Files in the channel you plan to use. See Permissions and Troubleshooting. Nothing below works without them.
/settings channel #fishing: designate your fishing channel for chest drops/settings rarecatch #fishing: announce Mythical+ catches in the same channel, or pick a quieter one/settings leaderboard-results #announcements: post the weekly and monthly champions where people will see them/settings notify-events @Events: create an opt-in role and assign it here/settings notify-chest @Events: use the same role or a separate one for chests/settings timezone America/New_York: set your community's timezone/settings prefix !f: leave as default or pick your own
Run /settings view afterwards to check everything.
Members who want event pings can assign themselves the role from your server's role menu. Reminders go by DM, and each player turns them on. See Members aren't getting reminders if someone isn't getting them.
